Audiences

Describe who personalized content is for.

Audiences define who should see a variation. You describe an audience in plain language, or build match conditions. Both paths produce the same rules, evaluated against visitor profiles.

Create an audience

  1. Open Audiences.
  2. Name the audience and write a description (for example, “shoppers with strong buying intent on product pages”).
  3. Use Simple to compile conditions from the description, or Advanced to build match groups yourself.
  4. Preview an estimated match rate against recent visitors.
  5. Set the audience to active so it can be used.

Only active audiences take part in personalization. Drafts stay in the dashboard until you activate them.

What you can match on

Typical profile fields include:

  • Engagement score
  • Pages viewed
  • Visits to the site
  • Topics of interest
  • Last page viewed
  • Buying-intent or category signals

Keep descriptions specific enough that a teammate can tell who is in or out.

Use with pages

In Composer, zones and experiments can target an audience. Deploy the page after you assign audiences — unpublished drafts do not affect visitors.

Campaigns

Campaigns can also use audiences. An inactive audience will not match, even if a campaign references it.
